It is no secret that the Lake District is a beautiful part of the UK. Whether it is the rolling hills, the lush green fields or perhaps the extensive lakes that all call it their home; many people want to check out every inch of what it has to offer.
It doesn’t matter whether you are heading into the Lake District on your electronic bike, your traditional cycle or perhaps under the power of your own two feet, there are going to be things to keep in mind.
To help to make sure that you get the most of your time in the Lake District, as well as that you are safe too, here are some of the things to keep in mind.
Check out the weather
It is always incredibly important that you take the time to check the weather forecast before you head off. You can check it a few days in advance, as this will help you to pack, but you also need to check it just before you set off too, as things can change quickly. If you do happen to get caught without realising that wind or rain was coming, then you need to make sure that you seek shelter and that you stay away from the tallest point on the hills, particularly during a storm.
Have the right skills and knowledge to stay safe
You might not be an expert when it comes to exploring, but in order to stay safe then you are going to need to make sure that you are armed with the right skills and knowledge. Plan you route, work out whether there are shortcuts to take should you need to and always know that you can turn back. That way, you and everyone who you are exploring with can be kept as safe as possible.
Always have the right gear with you
When you are exploring the Lake District you need to make sure that you have everything that you need. It is important that you layer up your clothes, it can be cold, even on a sunny day, especially when you stop walking or cycling. Keep the clothes that you wear lightweight, layered and loose as this will help to trap the warm air and keep you warm too.
It is always a good idea to make yourself a checklist to ensure that you have everything that you are going to need. The key things that you are going to need to pack include:
- Map and Compass
- Waterproofs
- Extra layer of clothing
- Liquids
- Equipment to fix your bike if you are cycling
- A torch
This may seem like a lot to carry, but it is really worthwhile packing it to make sure that should anything happen that you are kept safe and that you won’t need to worry.
Get out there, enjoy everything that the Lake District has to offer and see the amazing sights. We can promise you that the views are something that you are never going to forget.
