You’ve probably heard of an e-bike, but perhaps aren’t quite sure what it is, really. Or maybe you do know what an e-bike is, but don’t know if it’s for you. Well, that’s why we have produced this handy guide to Lake District e-bike buying.
Even with a conventional pedal cycle it can be difficult to choose exactly what kind of bike suits your lifestyle best. Not only that, but there is the quality to think about and the price, of course. First though, here at e-venturebikes in Keswick, we’ve split our e-bikes into four different categories. Click on the links to see more details of particular e-bikes:
Keswick e-bikes to choose from at e-venturebikes
e-Full Suspension MTB

This is an e-mountain bike with both front and back suspension system ie a front fork and rear shock absorber. It also has a good, stable frame and tyres designed to grip to a variety of hazardous objects such as fallen tree branches, unexpected rocks and other hill and mountain hazards.
A low-centre of gravity with this type of bike gives you better balance – which you’ll need when riding fast downhill over rough terrain. The tyres are designed for added traction while the ascents should be a piece of cake.
Full suspension e-bikes weight more than other e-bikes thanks to the technology involved in their make-up. Once you’re off cycling, however, you forget that weight existed in the first place. The technology also explains why they tend to be more expensive. Our e-full suspension MTB bikes range from the 2021 Cannondale Moterra Neo Carbon 3+
to the 2020 Lapierre e-zesty 9.0.
e-Hard Tail MTB

Just as the name implies, an e-hard tail mountain bike doesn’t have any rear suspension ie it has a rigid rear triangle. Not having all that technology to pay for makes it less expensive. But it also means it’s better at getting up hills (because it’s lighter and no pedal power is being redirected to the suspension system).
An e-hard tail MTB is better for countryside and woodland cycling. Gravel paths are easy on this type of e-bike and so are twig-carpeted forest carpets. Here at our Keswick e-bike shop you can choose from a price range starting with the Haibike Sduro Hardseven 2.5 right up to the Haibike Hardseven 4.0 version.
e-Road Bikes in Keswick

A road bike where the electric motor makes it easier to peddle, e-road bikes allow you to go faster for longer. As such the ‘e’ could also stand for endurance.
Clever engineering has allowed specially designed motors and battery packs so they don’t interfere with the aerodynamic structure of the bike. Nor do these add too much weight-wise.
Amongst our most popular e-road bikes are the 2020 Lapierre e-sensium 200 Flat Bar and the 2020 Lapierre e-xelius SL 600.
e-Hybrid, Town & Trekking

This type of e-bike has really come into its own in recent months – especially with the avoidance of public transport. People have been using e-hybrid bikes to commute to work when possible, take leisurely cycle rides to enjoy the outdoors, and generally get fit.
A motor helps propel you when you are carrying heavy shopping, or have to go up a particularly steep hill etc. Why wouldn’t you make life more comfortable for yourself? Our pick of e-hybrid town and trekking bikes include the 2020 Bergamont e-horizon 7 500 Wave and the Haibike Sduro Trekking 5.0 Womens.
